A first edition of John Collingwood Bruce's work on the Bayeux Tapestry and the events it depicts A first edition of John Collingwood Bruce's work on the Bayeux Tapestry and the history it depicts, with 16 coloured plates, including a chromolithograph dedication to the Duchess of Northumberland, collated and complete. Although minister and school master John Collingwood Bruce primarily published historical works about the North East and Hadrian's Wall, this work was inspired by a trip to Normandy. As well as reproductions of the tapestry, the work chronicles the events it portrays. In the publisher's original binding, with quarter-bound leather over hard boards. Externally, a little worn. Rubbed to both boards. A little rubbed at the spine, and bumped to the head of the spine with a small closed tear in the leather. Rather worn at the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Heavy spotting to the front and rear of the book, and some light spotting throughout. Good . Ill.: Mr Mossam. Good .

A scarce volume of a catalogue of British antiquities from Alnwick Castle. This volume was printed for private distribution. Unusually clean apart from a tide mark to the head of the first twenty or so pages. Alnwick Castle is a castle and country house based in the countryside of Northumberland. The castle was built following the Norman conquest and the seat of the 12th Duke of Northumberland. The antiquities are listed from the collection of The Museum of British Antiquities in Alnwick Castle. With thirty three plates. Collated, complete. In half morocco binding. Externally, very smart with some minor marks to the boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound with bright pages with a tide mark to the top of the first twenty pages. Very Good . Ill.: Not Stated.
